Catholic Schools to remain closed Thursday, October 10, 2024 in anticipation of Hurricane Milton making landfall

Following recent news regarding the expected landfall of Hurricane Milton to Florida’s west coast, The Archdiocese of Miami has announced that all Archdiocese of Miami Catholic schools in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties will be closed on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 and Thursday, October 10, 2024.

The Basilica School of St. Mary Star of the Sea in Key West is expected to be closed on Wednesday but re-open on Thursday.

While it is expected that the passage of the Hurricane will allow for normal operations in all schools on Friday, further decisions regarding operations on Friday, October 11 will be confirmed once the trajectory of the hurricane is better known.

We will continue to provide updates via our website, and on social media on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

What a week full of amazing experiences

Hispanic Heritage week began “De Colores” our students $2.00 dress down donation contributed to The Blue Missions Organization as they came dressed in the colors of their heritage country. Our youngest students had their much anticipated “Desfile de las Americas” where our PK2 & PK3 students had a special presentation for their parents including their country displays and a parade. These littles are adorable. Our 7th graders also explored their Hispanic roots having breakfast at La Carreta and visiting the Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami. On Wednesday, our students participated in the Eucharistic Procession as it passed through our school hallways. The children sang and prayed as the blessed sacrament processed by their classrooms. A Special Thank you to Fr. Vega, Mrs. Seiglie, Mrs. Carr and Ms. Villazon for organizing this special procession. On Thursday, our students enjoyed stations of “Musica y Cultura” learning some typical Hispanic dance steps and learning about our Hispanic sports culture.

Thank you to Mrs. Carr and Ms. Navarro for teaching our students some of our cultural dance moves.

Friday, October 25th | 6:00-8:00 pm

Get ready for a fang-tastic time! Trunk-or-Treat is creeping up, and sales for spots and tickets are NOW OPEN! The class with the most spots will score an ice cream party and extra recess—how sweet is that? All proceeds go to our school improvement fund, so it’s a win-win for everyone!

We need some ghoulish volunteers to make this event a spooky success—it’s a perfect PIP opportunity! We’re also asking each student to bring in one family/party-size bag of candy. The first class to hit 100% participation will win a special prize on October 25th.

Thank you all for your continuous support—let’s make this the most spook-tacular event of the year!

Thank you to our Sponsors!
